Halloween fun

Although we tried really hard to make Halloween memorable for Carson last year, it turned out that he was afraid of his monkey costume, and we trick-or-treated for about 5 minutes (half dressed up), then gave up and called it a night. I don't think we even posted any pictures. So far, this year is panning out to be better.

The monkey costume still fits and is now hilarious instead of frightening, so we're off to a good start. ("Mom, it's got a banana in it's pocket! hahahahahahahahaha!") Unfortunately, the monkey costume is going to have to wait for the big night, or at least for a little cooler weather. Now that we're in Texas, plush/fleece is not such a practical fabric in October. So, we've kept ourselves busy with a few pre-Halloween activities to take our minds off the awesome costume that's stashed in the closet.

First, we made some Halloween cookies. I knew that Carson would love to eat the cookies, but I was a little surprised that he wanted to help with the preparation. This was a huge hit!

It's hard to see it here, but he's showing you the bat shaped cookie cutter, which he stashed with the other cutters in his trick-or-treat bucket until time to cut.

Here we are hard at work.

And... a few of the end results. Eat your hearts out, Margaret and John. Just kidding... if you want to come visit, we'll save you a few. :)

As if an entire batch of iced sugar cookies wasn't enough to keep us going for the weekend, today, we added to the excitement by carving pumpkins. This was surprisingly scary for Carson -- he wouldn't even ride next to the pumpkins on the way home from buying them. He ran away as we scooped out the seeds and stringy stuff, and he protested when we wanted to give them faces. So, we all finally settled on carving them with inanimate objects, and this was a successful compromise. They are a robot (inanimate? not sure) and a rocket, complete with glow-in-the-dark star stickers, fearlessly applied by Mr Carson himself.

Photos to come of Carson (and possibly Bryan and me) suited up for the big night.

Hey Cox family! I've never visited your blog before, but saw the link on FB and decided to check it out. Carson is absolutely adorable and I laughed at the similarities between him and Malachi when it comes to costumes and carving pumpkins! I love the rocket and may try that with our little guys this year. I'm excited to see the pics of Carson all suited up!
Take care, Erin

Those are some impressive, preofessionally carved pumpkins. Can't wait to see Carson in the monkey costume.
