Fort Worth Nature Center - twice!

Last week was the last hurrah of my unemployment, and with Carson starting daycare, Bryan and I decided to try out a hike at the Fort Worth Nature Center. It's called the Canyon Ridge trail, and we laughed at that name because, really... a canyon in central Texas? Ha! But, we were pleasantly surprised! See for yourself:

We also hiked through fields of cactus and yucca, which were surprisingly pretty and felt much more Texas-y.

We also found a couple of these...

... not sure what that is about.

We enjoyed ourselves so much that we decided to take Carson back this weekend for the FWNC Monster Bash, which is a festival to honor the Fort Worth monster -- a goat-man that hurls tires. Yes, I agree, the premise is just a little on the hoaky side, but the festival was fun! We also got to see some of the other fun things the park offers, including a herd of bison and the lake itself.

Today, they had a huge pile of hay near the fence at the road so that the bison would hang out where people could see them. They even had a plate of apples and "bison cookies" for the kids to throw over the fence. Carson loved it! (and so did the bison!)

We also took our first family canoe ride. (is this a landmark? not sure...) Carson is still talking about that red boat. What a cutie. :)

In other news, I am officially a working woman and, although I miss my little guy at home, I am so excited to be back in the grown-up world.
